Au Pair in Ireland
Currently in Ireland, there is no legislation governing the au pair cultural exchange programme. In Ireland families are now obliged to pay minimum wage to an au pair as the au pair is considered to be an employee. Standard Au Pair Programme
A standard au pair is an au pair who works either 30 hours per week plus 1 nights babysitting (a maximum of 1 of these to be at the weekend) or 35 hours per week.
Demi Au Pair
A demi au pair works 15 to 25 hours and 1 or 2 nights babysitting per week.
Elderly Care Au Pair Programme
An elderly care au pair is an au pair who lives with an older person and offers companionship, some light housework and help with everyday tasks. This au pair will usually work for up to 30 hours per week in exchange for board, accomodation. An au pair for seniors is not suitable for someone who requires medical care.

Au Pair Holidays and Days Off
An au pair is entitled to 1 week paid holiday for every 6 months worked. An au pair will have 2 full days off per week. At least 1 of these days must be at the weekend. She/he must also have 1 weekend off per month (from Friday evening to Monday morning).
